Tester Asks to Compare Notes With Rehberg on Wilderness Bill

By Beacon Staff

HELENA – U.S. Sen. Jon Tester says he wants to compare notes with Rep. Denny Rehberg on the senator’s logging and wilderness bill.

Tester’s plan would both create more wilderness and mandate more logging over the next decade. It is billed as a compromise between the timber industry and environmentalists.

Rehberg has been holding town halls taking public comment on the plan, but so far has withheld his own assessment.

Tester, who has also held meetings on the bill, says the two should get together and compare notes.

The Democrat says Montana would be best served if he and Rehberg, a Republican, discuss the Forest Jobs and Recreation Act.
