As a former state senator and state chairman of the Republican Party, I believe Republicans should never be willing to abandon our core principles and historical foundation just for the sheer purpose of winning elections. Further, I believe a large majority of Americans value our traditional foundations, constructed by brilliant statesman like Thomas Jefferson. But again, even if they did not, we should never give up our principles just to win elections. Republicans should never be willing to cast aside our Jeffersonian philosophies. Anything less will surely be disastrous to our nation.
Jefferson said: “Yes, we did produce a near-perfect Republic. But will they keep it? Or will they, in the enjoyment of plenty, lose the memory of freedom? Material abundance without character is the path of destruction.”
The Democrats, with the help of some misguided Republicans, have gained large majorities by offering an abundance of socialized programs without character. Now we have a debt, which will most likely collapse our economy if statesmen with the fortitude of our founding fathers don’t stand up and regain America’s traditions.
“Our people look for a cause to believe in. Is it a third party we need, or is it a new and revitalized second party, raising a banner of no pale pastels, but bold colors, which make it unmistakably clear where we stand on all of the issues troubling the people?”
Ronald Reagan said in 1975.
