Schweitzer Encouraged by Energy Meeting with Obama

By Beacon Staff

HELENA – Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer says he was encouraged by an energy meeting with President Barack Obama and believes Montana is in the running for a clean coal project.

Schweitzer says that the president listened intently to a group of bipartisan governors gathered to talk about energy on Wednesday.

Schweitzer says that Montana is one of the states vying for one of 10 clean coal facilities.

The governor says he heard a commitment from the president to move aggressively toward the carbon capture facilities.

Schweitzer says Obama told the governors that he is from a coal state — Illinois — and believes in coal, despite the criticism it can draw.

The White House also released recommendations from a presidential task force calling for a push toward biofuels like ethanol.
