Growing up, Connor Fuller’s competitive nature occasionally got him into trouble. Taking that energy onto the basketball court is what makes him a big man on the hardwood.
“I haven’t been the strongest, tallest or the best,” said Fuller, a senior point guard. “But I bring intensity. I like competing. I know I can be a great player.”
Surrounding yourself with familiar faces can help, too. Fuller has been playing with teammates Shay Smithwick-Hann, Grahm Schmaltz, Freddie Blodnick and Logan Quay since grade school.
“We can go back and fourth and have good chemistry,” said Fuller. “We can flow with each other.”
Fuller challenges himself on every aspect of the game. While he loves it when the shots are falling, he prides himself most on defense.
“I like defending the best player on their team,” he said. “I want to be that guy.”
Another challenge this year is taking a bigger leadership role and being more vocal.
“Point guard is like being the quarterback on the team,” he said. “I’ll be the guy who tells them good job or they have to pick it up.”
Besides excelling in academics – he is currently maintaining a 3.6 GPA – Fuller’s goal is to bring home the first state basketball trophy for the Wolfpack.
