Tester Lashes Back at Ads Against ‘Bailout’

By Beacon Staff

HELENA – U.S. Sen. Jon Tester is lashing back at ads criticizing his support of a “big bank bailout” that he says doesn’t exist.

The ads airing in Montana from a little-known political group with links to conservatives is urging Montanans to oppose a “big bank bailout bill.” It refers to a bill that Democrats say is about regulation — not handouts.

Tester says automated calls to Montana mislead Montanans, then automatically reroute the call to Tester’s office.

The ad is running elsewhere around the country. It is sponsored by The Committee for Truth in Politics, which could not be reached for comment.

Tester points out he is the only Senate Democrat to have voted against the Wall Street and auto industry bailouts.
