The state Fish, Wildlife and Parks Department says whitetail deer hunting will be limited to bucks in northwest Montana’s Region One for the next two years.
The FWP Commission voted last week to make the change after the agency documented a downward trend in whitetail reproduction and noticed fewer deer in the area. Those observations were echoed by hunters who spoke at a recent hearing in Kalispell on proposed season regulations for this year and next. Most of the hunters said the harvest should be limited to bucks.
Regional wildlife manager Jim Williams said “hunters are in a very cautious mode and are advocating for a restrictive hunting package.”
