Renovation Work Planned for Many Glacier Hotel

By Beacon Staff

GLACIER NATIONAL PARK – Officials with the National Park Service have awarded a $9.5 million contract to Swank Enterprises for interior rehabilitation work on the northern half of Many Glacier Hotel, built in 1915.

Work to correct health and safety problems will begin in the fall after the hotel closes and will involve administrative offices, guest rooms, the dining room, Interlaken lounge, the kitchen, employee dining room, and other employee and maintenance areas.

Officials made the announcement Friday.

Park Superintendent Chas Cartwright says work will be completed before the hotel opens in the spring of 2012.

He says during the summer of 2011, about half of the 214 guest rooms will be closed for renovation.

The work is being paid for with American Recovery and Reinvestment Act stimulus funds.
