UM Considering Four-Day School Week

MISSOULA – A study group has scheduled three open forums to discuss the pros and cons of the University of Montana switching to a four-day school week.

UM President George Dennison suggested the idea earlier this year as a way to save about $450,000 from the school’s budget, much of it from reduced utility costs.

The one-hour forums are scheduled Friday at 11 a.m. at the University Center Theater, April 8 at 2 p.m. at the UC Theater and on April 9 at noon at the UM College of Technology.

Under the proposal, most of the university would be closed on Mondays. All classes would be 90 minutes long and most staff would work four 10-hour days.
