WEST GLACIER – Authorities say a 37-year-old Whitefish man apparently died in an avalanche while skiing in Glacier National Park.
Glacier officials said the victim’s body was found Thursday near the bottom of the slide at the base of Mt. Shields in the southeastern part of the park. The man’s name was not released.
Flathead County Sheriff Mike Meehan said authorities are unsure how long the skier had been missing or when the avalanche occurred.
Glacier spokesman Wade Muehlhof said there is no reason to believe the avalanche claimed any other victims.
