World Indoor Golf Championships in Whitefish

By Beacon Staff

Whitefish is holding the 14th Annual World Indoor Golf Championships on April 22. It’s an evening of eating, drinking, putting and, for some, winning. Rather than trying to explain how the whole thing works, I’ll leave it up to Kevin Gartland, the executive director of the Whitefish Chamber of Commerce. Here’s his spirited press release:

Have you ever dreamed of being a “World Champion” at something … ANYTHING? Well here’s your chance!

The 14th Annual World Indoor Golf Championships come to Whitefish on Thursday April 22nd, and you could walk away from the event with the title “World Champion” … as well as the semi-prestigious plaid jacket, a Michelob Ultra custom-made putter, and the honor and prestige of knowing that you’re the best indoor golfer that Whitefish, the U.S. and the world has to offer!

Indoor golf? That’s right…150 of the top “putters” in the world will test their skills on nine custom-designed miniature golf holes, they’ll eat and drink at nine of downtown Whitefish’s finest restaurants and bars, and they’ll vie for scores of raffle prizes and awards … including the “Best Dressed Team” and “Tackiest Hackers.”

Golfers will “check in” on April 22 at the tourney’s kick-off party, to be held from 5-6 p.m. at the Great Northern Bar. The “shotgun start” will be at 6 p.m., with several teams sent out to each of the holes. Competitors will then play each of the holes on the course … eating and drinking along the way. Once they’ve completed the course, golfers will gather at The Remington for the post-tournament Awards Ceremonies and Party…and the crowning of the new World Champions!

The golfers themselves will cast votes for the Best-Designed Golf Hole, the Toughest Hole, and the “Best Taste of the Tournament” And expect the competition for the “Taste” award to be very tough indeed, as participating restaurants and bars serve up a complimentary spread of the finest watering-hole cuisine to be found west of the Continental Divide.

Participating restaurants and bars include: the Great Northern Bar & Grill, McKenzie River Pizza, the Craggy Range, Great Northern Brewery, The Remington/La Hacienda, The Bulldog, Casey’s/The Red Caboose, Crush Wine Bar and The Buffalo Café!

If you haven’t reserved your tee time, you’d better hurry…the tournament is limited to the first 150 golfers to sign on the dotted line, and spaces are going fast! For more information – or to reserve your spot – call the Whitefish Chamber at 862-3501.
