Committee to Discuss Medical Marijuana Rules

By Beacon Staff

GREAT FALLS – A legislative interim committee plans to meet Tuesday to discuss the rapid growth of the medical marijuana industry in the state and consider problems that have arisen.

The legislative committee oversees the Department of Public Health and Human Services. It hopes to identify issues that have emerged since voters approved the Montana Medical Marijuana Act in November 2004.

The eventual goal is to come up with solutions for the 2011 Legislature to consider.

Tuesday’s meeting is part of a series of meetings that include panel discussions and public testimony.

Montana has more than 12,000 medical marijuana patients.
