Former Flathead High School quarterback Mike Reilly was picked up by the Seattle Seahawks on Tuesday after being released by the St. Louis Rams. Reilly, a 6-3 and 212-pound quarterback, was undrafted last year, before being picked up by the Pittsburgh Steelers, then moving to the Green Bay Packers, Rams and now the Seahawks. Reilly, 25, starred at Central Washington in college.
He was one of four players claimed by the Seahwaks, though, according to a Seahawks’ blog and other sources, Reilly is considered the only one capable of making the team, instead of staying on the practice squad.
Another Seahawks’ blog describes Reilly’s chances this way:
Mike Reilly is a lot more mobile than Mike Teel, Seahawks’ 6th round pick last year, and should have a legit shot to make the team.
In other news, another former Flathead High School quarterback, Brock Osweiler, appears to be the frontrunner for the starting position at Arizona State University, according to media reports coming out of Arizona. College Fantasy Football Insider, referring to Osweiler’s strong performance in spring ball, said: “If he keeps playing like this he should lock up the starting gig.”
ESPN’s Ted Miller had this to say about the sophomore quarterback:
Osweiler’s spring blossoming is a bit of a surprise. While the winner won’t be announced until fall practices, it’s not a stretch to say that, barring a poor performance in Saturday’s spring game, Osweiler will head into the summer with a slight lead.
