Grizzlies Captured Near Ferndale Relocated

By Beacon Staff

State wildlife officials say two grizzly bears that had been frequenting the Ferndale area have been captured and relocated in the South Fork of the Flathead River drainage.

Grizzly bear management specialist Tim Manley says both bears were captured because they were eating grass in yards, approaching houses and were not wary of people.

A 209-pound female was trapped on private property on May 5 and a 228-pound male was caught the next day. Manley says both were radio-collared and released last Saturday in the Flathead National Forest near the northern edge of the Bob Marshall Wilderness.
