Third Grizzly Captured Near Ferndale

By Beacon Staff

State wildlife officials have captured a third grizzly bear in the Ferndale area and relocated it in the South Fork of the Flathead River drainage.

Fish, Wildlife and Parks wildlife conflict specialist Erik Wenum says a grizzly bear had been getting into dog food in the Ferndale area, so bear managers set a trap. It’s not clear if the 4-year-old female that was trapped was the problem bear, but it was fitted with an ear tag transmitter and released Wednesday in the Flathead National Forest near the northern edge of the Bob Marshall Wilderness.

Two young grizzly bears that were captured in the Ferndale area earlier this month were released in the same area on May 8.
