FWP Seeking Comment on Proposed Wolf Quotas

By Beacon Staff

HELENA – The state Fish, Wildlife and Parks Department has scheduled seven open house meetings next week to hear comment on the 2010 wolf hunting season proposals.

The FWP Commission recently approved quota alternatives of 153, 186 or 216 wolves in 14 management areas, up from 75 wolves over three management areas last season. The commission is also proposing a wolf archery season at the same time as Montana’s deer, elk, mountain lion and black bear archery seasons.

The open house meetings are scheduled on June 2 beginning at 7 p.m. at FWP headquarters in Billings, Great Falls, Kalispell and Miles City, at the Holiday Inn in Bozeman, the Valley County Courthouse in Glasgow and the Double Tree Edgewater in Missoula. Public comment is being accepted through June 14.
