Missing Lolo Peak Skier Found Dead

By Beacon Staff

MISSOULA – Missoula County officials say a 38-year-old man who had been missing in the Lolo Peak area since Tuesday was found dead Friday morning.

Sheriff Mike McMeekin says the man’s body was located near the top of Lolo Peak southwest of Missoula at 9:20 a.m. McMeekin says the man’s body is located in treacherous and remote territory and he expects the recovery effort to be difficult.

He says he hopes searchers will be able to land a helicopter in the area because the terrain and weather would make a ground recovery effort dangerous.

McMeekin says the initial search crew did not speculate how the skier had died.

The man’s name has not been released pending notification of family members.
