Grizzly Cub Struck and Killed North of St. Regis

By Beacon Staff

Confederated Salish and Kootenai tribal wildlife officials say a grizzly bear cub was struck and killed by a vehicle just north of St. Ignatius.

Germaine White is a spokeswoman for the tribes’ natural resources department. She says the 20-pound cub’s carcass spotted by a passer-by on Monday morning on Lemery Road, about three-quarters of a mile away from U.S. Highway 93.

Earlier this month, a young grizzly bear was struck and killed on U.S. 93 south of Ronan. Neither driver reported the collisions.
