LEWISTOWN – Fergus County officials have released the name of the woman who was killed in a one-vehicle crash near Winifred.
Deputy Coroner Jeremy Bristol says 20-year-old Shaina P. Evans of Kalispell died early Sunday at a Lewistown hospital. Evans was a student and member of the volleyball team at Montana State University-Northern in Havre.
The Montana Highway Patrol says Evans was thrown from the vehicle in the crash, which happened at about 1:20 a.m. Sunday.
Trooper Scott Fox says Evans failed to negotiate a long, left handed curve on Secondary 236. She overcorrected and the car slid off the roadway, rolling several times.
Her passenger, an 18-year-old woman from Havre, was taken to the hospital with injuries.
