Montana Wildfire Forces Evacuation of Subdivision

By Beacon Staff

COLUMBUS – The Columbus Fire Department chief in south-central Montana says a wildfire has forced the evacuation of about 20 homes Sunday in a subdivision between Columbus and Reed Point.

Rich Cowger says the entire Hearts and Diamonds subdivision has been evacuated due to a blaze he estimates at about 70 acres.

Cowger says 45 firefighters are at the scene and that additional crews have been called from surrounding counties, along with at least two helicopters.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
