Missoula Marathon, Named Best in Nation, Attracts Thousands

In December, I wrote a blog post about the Missoula Marathon being named the best marathon in the nation by Runner’s World magazine. It appears marathon organizers in Missoula have capitalized on that exposure, with a huge turnout expected for this weekend’s event. The two-day event is scheduled for July 10-11.

According to a Missoulian story, as of last week runners from all 50 states had signed up, for a total of 1,350 in the marathon, 2,122 in the half marathon, 197 in the kids’ marathon and 20 in the marathon relay. That’s more than double last year’s count and organizers expect a lot more last-second registrations since, the story states, “runners like to know they can perform at 100 percent on race day and like to know what the weather will be.”

For Missoula, fresh off beating out mainstays like the New York City Marathon and Boston Marathon for top marathon in the nation, the large turnout is an impressive feat.
