Griz Moved from Flathead to Kootenai Forest

By Beacon Staff

State wildlife officials have moved a 249-pound young male grizzly bear from the Flathead National Forest to augment the grizzly population in the Cabinet Mountains south of Troy.

Fish, Wildlife and Parks grizzly bear management specialist Tim Manley says the bear was captured Saturday near Coal Creek in the Whitefish Range. The bear was held overnight, fitted with a radio collar and relocated to the Kootenai National Forest the next day.

Bear management specialist Kim Annis of Libby says the 4-year-old grizzly was a good candidate for the augmentation project because it was in good condition and had no history of conflict with humans.
