Charge Dismissed Against Woman Who Scolded Judge

By Beacon Staff

COLUMBIA FALLS – Authorities in the northwestern Montana town of Columbia Falls have dismissed a disorderly conduct charge against a woman that was filed after a judge reported she “shook her fist and made a face” at him during a traffic dustup.

Columbia Falls officials recently dismissed the charge against resident Cynthia Howell.

Howell confronted Whitefish Municipal Judge Bradley Johnson on July 9 at the Columbia Falls Post Office. She says she told the judge to slow down on city streets.

Johnson denies going over the posted speed limit and submitted a written statement to police concerning the confrontation, supplying Howell’s license plate number.

City officials say there was enough evidence to file the disorderly conduct charge but that insufficient evidence exists to sustain a conviction.
