The Sperry Trail starts at the Lake McDonald Lodge and heads into the thick lower forest. As you get closer to the Sperry Chalet the trees begin to open up as you cross winter avalanche paths. About six miles in you will come to a fork, where you can either take a right and see the Sperry Chalet or keep heading up toward Comeau Pass. The pass is about four miles past the chalet fork.
The trail crosses a few waterfalls and boulder fields before presenting you with a large head wall between Edwards and Gunsight mountains. Trail crews have cut in a notch and steps with a cable to ascend.
Once at the top of Comeau Pass you have a rare view of the Logan Pass area and the Little Matterhorn. If you want to see the Sperry Glacier keep following the rock cairns another half mile and the Sperry Glacier will be on the right below Gunsight Mountain.
How to Get There: Take Highway 2 to West Glacier. Enter Glacier National Park and then follow the Going-to-the-Sun Road to the Lake McDonald Lodge and find the Sperry Trail head near the horse stables.
