BILLINGS – A scholarship has been set up in honor of a newspaper reporter who died in a plane crash this summer.
The Billings Gazette reports the Melissa Hart Weaver Inspirational Award Memorial Fund Scholarship was created by the Education Foundation for Billings Public Schools, along with Weaver’s family and friends.
The scholarship will be awarded for use in post-secondary education by graduating seniors from Senior High School in Billings, where Weaver graduated in 2005.
Weaver was 23 when she died while flying with friends in a small plane near the National Bison Range in late June. She was a reporter for The Daily Inter Lake of Kalispell, along with victim Erika Hoefer.
Pilot Sonny Kless and Brian Williams of Missoula also died in the crash.
