BILLINGS – Montana U.S. Rep. Denny Rehberg is hosting a series of public discussions on gray wolves prompted by the recent court decision to return the species to the endangered species list.
Meetings on the issue are scheduled for Tuesday in Dillon and Hamilton and Wednesday in Kalispell. The meeting in Kalispell will be held at Flathead Valley Community College Arts and Technology Large Meeting Room at 10 a.m.
Rehberg, a Republican, has drafted but yet not introduced a bill that would amend the Endangered Species Act to lift federal protections for wolves in Montana and Idaho.
Other proposals to strip endangered status from wolves have been advanced by Republican lawmakers from Idaho, Wyoming and Utah and by Montana’s two Democratic senators, Max Baucus and Jon Tester.
