Baucus: Congress, Not EPA, Should Regulate Greenhouse Gases

By Beacon Staff

Montana Sen. Max Baucus made it clear this week that he believes Congress should regulate greenhouse gases, not the Environmental Protection Agency.

Baucus spoke at the Montana Electric Cooperatives’ Association convention in Great Falls and said he supported a measure that would ban the EPA from writing climate legislation.<a href="http://www.greatfallstribune.com/article/20101006/NEWS01/10060301/Baucus+talks+climate+control++estate+taxes" title=" From the Great Falls Tribune:”> From the Great Falls Tribune:

“That would put too much power into few hands,” he said in a later press conference.

Baucus said he would prefer that such key legislation be written by congressional committees representing different sections of the country and varying economic and environmental views.

Jay Rockefeller, D-W. Va., that would push back EPA regulations scheduled to begin in January for another two years.

The White House has promised to veto the plan.
