Brenneman Files Complaint Over Political Ad

By Beacon Staff

Flathead County Commissioner Joe Brenneman has filed a complaint with the state Commissioner of Political Practices concerning an advertisement he says misrepresents his position on property rights.

Brenneman, seeking re-election on the Democratic ticket, filed the complaint Friday.

He says the property rights group American Dream Montana broke state law in a full-page, Sept. 28 advertisement in The Daily Inter Lake.

The advertisement asserts Brenneman said property rights are “silly” during a Senate committee hearing in 2007.

Brenneman says he testified that the bill being considered, not property rights, was silly because it was poorly written and duplicated protections already in place.

American Dream leader Russ Crowder says the complaint is “unfounded.”

Brenneman says the ad misrepresents his position on a public voting record and breaks state law as a result.
