Monana Soldier Injured by Land Mine in Afghanistan

By Beacon Staff

BOZEMAN – Friends and family say a 23-year-old Harrison man serving in Afghanistan has been severely injured by a land mine.

Jack Williams told the Bozeman Daily Chronicle his son, Army Sgt. J.D. Williams, was on patrol Saturday when the mine went off. The soldier, who lost both legs and his right arm, was listed in critical condition in Afghanistan on Monday.

Jack Williams says his son, a sniper with the 1-502nd Infantry Regiment based at Fort Benning, Ga., planned to go on leave next month to visit his wife and 11-month-old daughter in Georgia before going elk hunting in Montana.

J.D. Williams served one tour in Iraq before he was deployed to Afghanistan.
