The Whitefish Lady Bulldogs are one step closer to their third Class A state soccer title. The Bulldogs defeated Stevensville 2-0 over the weekend in the first round of the state playoffs. With the victory, they earned the right to host a semifinal match against Belgrade at 1 p.m. on Saturday Oct. 23.
Whitefish was the only Northwestern A girls team to win in the first round. Third-seeded Bigfork lost 5-0 to Billings Central, while second-seeded Columbia Falls fell 3-1 to Hamilton. In boys, Libby advanced with a 3-1 overtime victory over Hamilton and Polson beat Corvallis 2-1. Whitefish lost 2-1 to Livingston.
Class AA soccer brackets will not be set until this week’s play-in games are finished. The Class AA tourney is held in Great Falls on Oct. 28-30. The Class A tourney is a three-week event, with rounds played on separate weekends. Classes B and C don’t have soccer.
