High School Coach Accused of ‘Sexting’ Posts Bail

By Beacon Staff

BOZEMAN – A 29-year-old man accused of sending several sexually explicit text and photo messages to female students while he was Bozeman High School’s track coach has been released from jail after posting $50,000 bail.

The Bozeman Daily Chronicle reports that James Michael Evans made bail Monday and is prohibited from having contact with anyone under the age of 18 or coming within 100 yards of the high school. He was arrested Oct. 27 and is charged with felony sexual abuse of children and two misdemeanor counts of obscenity.

Authorities say an investigation found Evans had been communicating with at least two girls by text message and sent electronic images with sexual content to both. One said she was 15 when Evans started sending her messages that talked about engaging in sexual conduct.

Evans also was an assistant football coach, but he did not work in any other capacity for the school district.
