PLACES: Stumptown Art Studio

By Beacon Staff

A gift can feel more special when we put a little of ourselves into them. So, if you’re still looking for that meaningful holiday present, roll up your sleeves and give the gift of an original piece of art by getting creative at Stumptown Art Studio in Whitefish.

Choose from a number of already prepared bisque ware from cookie jars and figurines to bowls, plates and mugs. Glazes, paints and brushes are provided. The only limit is your imagination.

If a gift of glass fulfills a wish-list item, create your own one-of-a-kind glass fusion pieces. Invent something functional like plates or buttons, or fabricate stand-alone art pieces or pendants. There is also space to make your own mosaics or bring in a sentimental bottle to be melted and preserved.

Walk-ins are welcome and all proceeds from the sales go toward the non-profit’s art programs and workshops for children and adults.

For youngsters in the holiday spirit, Stumptown is hosting one full week of “Santa’s Busy Little Elves” workshop on December 13-17. Each day focuses on a different project, including ornaments, beading, stockings and wreaths.

For more information on youth classes, adult workshops and the ceramic annex, visit Stumptown’s website at http://www.stmptownartstudio.org, or call (406) 862-5929.

How to get there: The Stumptown Art Studio is located at 145 Central Ave., downtown Whitefish. If going north on U.S. Highway 93 through downtown, turn right onto Central Avenue.
