Montana, Up in the Air

By Beacon Staff

Montana has quite the spread in the latest issue of Delta Air Line’s Sky magazine, which showcases this state as one the recession almost skipped over altogether. It reads:

Montana has a lot to be proud of. Being one of only two states in the nation in the black may be an impressive accomplishment on its own. But when the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and National Chamber Foundation also rank it the No. 1 state for entrepreneurship and overall business start-up activity, Montana is left with little choice but to accept its place as a leader the rest of the nation should listen to and learn from.

The January issue will be onboard every one of Delta’s 13,000 daily flights and will reach millions of eyeballs. It includes interviews with former news anchor Tom Brokaw, Gov. Brian Schweitzer and paleontologist Jack Horner. It does mention Glacier Country, “a year-round tourist destination,” and Whitefish, a “historic and hip town.”

Perhaps it will attract tourists and even job investments to the area. While Flathead County’s unemployment rate remains a staggering 11.8 percent (.pdf), we need all the help we can get.
