Man Who Died at Whitefish Mountain Resort Identified

Authorities have identified a 68-year-old man who died while skiing at the Whitefish Mountain Resort over the weekend.

Flathead County Sheriff Chuck Curry says Richard T. Swope of Whitefish died of natural causes Saturday. Swope collapsed while skiing on an intermediate run and was taken to North Valley Hospital in Whitefish, where he was pronounced dead.

His death came the same day a 29-year-old snowboarder suffocated on the mountain after crashing into a tree well. A 53-year-old man also died the same day after being caught in an avalanche while snowmobiling in the South Fork of the Flathead River drainage.
