Indoor Arena Collapses Under Snow in Malta

By Beacon Staff

MALTA – Phillips County officials say a county-owned indoor roping arena has collapsed under the weight of the snow.

County Commissioner Lesley Robinson says the Milk River Pavilion collapsed around 11 a.m. Tuesday. She says a woman who was walking her dog saw the building buckle.

Robinson says the woman told commissioners it fell down all at once. The roof of the building is on the arena floor and the sides were buckled. No one was injured.

Commissioners believe the building is a total loss, but are waiting for official word from insurance adjusters.

Robinson says the 33,500-square-foot arena was built in 1976.
