Skees Bill Repealing Renewable Power Standard Tabled

By Beacon Staff

A bill by Rep. Derek Skees, R-Whitefish, that sought to repeal Montana’s renewable portfolio-standard was tabled in the Federal Relations, Energy and Telecommunications Committee today. The renewable-portfolio standard requires utilities to produce a certain portion of energy from renewable sources, like wind. Some major energy utilities were opposed to rolling back the standard, since they have made investments since it was passed in 2005 attempting to comply with it. The legislation was part of a slew of GOP bills promoting fossil fuel development and weakening incentives to develop clean energy.
