Kelsey DeWit, who graduated from Columbia Falls High School last year and whose younger sister still plays for the Wildkats, has been named the NAIA Division I women’s basketball player of the week. The announcement was made on Tuesday.

According to the NAIA website, DeWit, a 6-2 freshman center for Montana Tech in Butte, averaged 26.5 points on 67.9 percent shooting in two wins last week over Frontier Conference opponents. She also shot 82 percent from the foul line and pulled down 11 rebounds per game.

DeWit scored 21 points and had 10 rebounds in a 70-59 win over the University of Great Falls on Feb. 11. The next day, she posted 32 points and 12 rebounds in a 76-68 victory over Montana State University-Northern.

DeWit’s sister, Kayla, is a 6-2 senior post for Columbia Falls. She is leading the Northwestern A conference in scoring (19.2) and rebounding (10.6) for the division-leading Wildkats, who are a perfect 7-0 in league games and 9-7 overall.
