Man Killed in Mobile Home Fire Near Babb

By Beacon Staff

GREAT FALLS – Authorities say a 28-year-old man was killed in a mobile home near Babb in northwestern Montana.

Rural fire departments from Babb and Browning responded to the blaze on a ranch north of the town just after 4 a.m. Thursday and were on the scene for about eight hours.

Glacier County Coroner Tom Seifert identified the victim as Daniel Charles Powell and said he is awaiting the results of an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

A state fire marshal’s investigation revealed that the fire started when the man used too much propellant to start his wood stove. Flames from the explosion spread throughout the mobile home and an addition, which were completely burned.

The Great Falls Tribune reports that Powell lived alone in the home, and no one else was injured.
