LIBBY – Authorities in northwestern Montana are investigating a weekend shooting that left a 38-year-old Washington state man hospitalized.
Lincoln County officials say Scott Haskins of Olympia, Wash., was shot in the upper back early Sunday as he tried to re-enter a man’s Libby-area residence after being told to leave. Haskins was hospitalized in stable condition Monday.
Sheriff Roby Bowe says the 69-year-old homeowner was detained and questioned about the shooting and later released.
The sheriff’s and county attorney’s offices are still investigating. No charges have been filed.
Under state law, a person is justified in using force to stop someone from unlawfully entering their home.
Bowe says alcohol was a contributing factor to the shooting.
