Bigfork Loses Twice, Including Heartbreaker, at State Basketball

By Beacon Staff

With Bigfork leading in the fourth quarter of the Class B boys basketball semifinals against Wolf Point on Friday, it appeared Bigfork High School might send a team to a state championship game for the second time this school year. The Vikings won the Class B football title in the fall.

But Wolf Point, undefeated and ranked No. 1 in Class B, stormed back to defeat the Vikings 81-78 in overtime in Great Falls. Christian Ker scored 32 points for the Vikings and Jesse Driftwood scored 33 for the Wolves in the victory.

The loss forced the Vikings to play in a loser-out game against Shelby at 11 a.m. Saturday morning. Bigfork lost that game 65-51. Shelby advances to play Florence-Carlton in the consolation final at 6:30 p.m. Saturday evening. Wolf Point plays Columbus at 8 p.m. in the title game.

There are no more Flathead County teams left in any of the four state tournaments. In addition to the Wolf Point-Columbus matchup in Class B, the other title games scheduled for Saturday night are Bozeman and Billings West in Class AA boys at 6:30 in Butte; Missoula Sentinel against Billings West in Class AA girls at 8:30 in Butte; and Arlee against Scobey/Opheim in Class C boys at 8 in Bozeman.
