Bozeman’s Roderick Wins Second Gatorade Player of Year

By Beacon Staff

Tanner Roderick, a senior at Bozeman High School, has been named the Montana Gatorade Player of the Year for boys basketball. Roderick also won the football Gatorade Player of the Year.

He is the third athlete in Montana history to win multiple Gatorade awards. The other two were also from Bozeman: Shane Collins in 1986-1987 for football and track and Kirsten Tilleman in 2006-2007 for soccer and girls basketball. Roderick, a quarterback in football and guard in basketball, led Bozeman to state titles in both sports. He will play football at the University of Nevada.

Danielle Muri of Billings West won the award for girls basketball. She led the Golden Bears to the Class AA state title.

In a press release, Billings West boys basketball coach Doug Robison said Roderick is “the best overall athlete in the state.”

“He’s a dominant factor on the court. He’s a good perimeter shooter and penetrator, and he’s a very good defender. If he hadn’t committed to play football in college, he probably would’ve gone Division I for basketball. He’s that good.”
