Flathead’s Health Rating

By Beacon Staff

Gallatin was rated the healthiest county in the state and Roosevelt County the least healthy in rankings released this week by the University of Wisconsin’s Population Health Institute and Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

The report factors in everything from clinical care and economics to the physical environment and so-called “health outcomes” (see more on the methodology here).

Flathead County ranked a respectable 11th among the 45 Montana counties included in the report. It ranked highest in clinical care and physical environment and lowest in social and economic factors.

A few stats from the Flathead County report:

Adults smoking: 18%
Adults obese: 22%
Excessive drinkers: 18%
Adults with no health insurance: 20%
Children in poverty: 18%
Single-parent households: 24%
