FWP: 1,200 Big Game Combo Licenses Still for Sale

By Beacon Staff

BILLINGS – Wildlife officials are pointing to an increase in the price of some nonresident hunting licenses as the reason about 1,200 big game combination licenses are still for sale.

Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks says about 15,800 nonresidents applied for the 17,000 big game or elk combination licenses for the upcoming season. That means everyone who applied for either the $912 nonresident big game combination license or the $812 elk combo license by the March 15 deadline will get one.

The remaining 1,200 nonresident big game combination licenses will be sold online on a first-come, first-serve basis beginning April 18. More than 19,000 nonresidents applied for similar tags last year.

FWP officials think the surplus might be the result of a voter-approved 40 percent increase in the cost of out-of-state big game tags.
