ZooMontana’s Liability Insurance Policy Canceled

By Beacon Staff

BILLINGS – ZooMontana in Billings is expected to be closed for the rest of the week after its liability insurance policy was canceled.

Zoo Board President Ian McDonald says he was informed Monday about the policy, which is carried by Philadelphia Insurance. He says the zoo’s insurance agent is working to find a new carrier.

McDonald says the zoo is up to date on its bills, but the policy was canceled over what the carrier said was a late payment. Meanwhile, zoo director Jackie Worstell says even though the payments are current, the insurance company “doesn’t have faith in knowing we would be a good client.”

She says the zoo didn’t have enough money to make payments this winter.

The cancellation is the latest setback for the zoo after its accreditation was recently threatened because of its dire financial situation.
