Helena Caregiver Raided by Federal Agents

By Beacon Staff

HELENA – Federal agents are raiding a medical marijuana caregiver on the eastern edge of Helena.

Paul Schmidt, owner of Sleeping Giant Caregivers, was out of town Friday afternoon, but confirmed to The Associated Press that agents were at the grow operation.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Jessica Fehr in Billings says the Drug Enforcement Administration was involved, but did not know what other agencies might be assisting.

Court records show federal agents have a warrant to seize up to $1.2 million from an account at Mountain West Bank that Fehr says is connected to the Sleeping Giant case.

Twenty-six search warrants were executed in federal raids on medical marijuana operations in Montana on March 14. Fehr says there were no other federal raids taking place Friday.
