Rockies Hit by Rain, Floods; Two Dead

By Beacon Staff

BILLINGS – Authorities have recovered the body of a second person killed by flood waters soaking Montana and surrounding states.

Yellowstone County Sheriff Mike Linder said the body was found Tuesday downstream of where 47-year-old Clint Stovall disappeared Sunday while moving equipment near Pryor Creek. Positive identification is pending.

That came after an 84-year-old woman drowned Friday in Carbon County.

Meanwhile, relief teams on southeastern Montana’s Crow Reservation reached a flood-isolated community along the Wyoming border.

Tuesday’s frenzied relief effort on the rural reservation came as heavy rain continued to fall on saturated ground across the region, swelling rivers and streams over their banks.

Forecasters say communities along south-central Montana’s Shields River could be next in line for flooding Tuesday night.
