OGDEN, Utah – A 94-year-old Montana man was killed and four family members are recovering after the crash of a vehicle towing a flatbed trailer loaded with lumber during high winds on a highway in northwest Utah, a Utah Highway Patrol official said.

Leroy M. Grace, of Trego, Mont., a passenger, died at a hospital after the roof of a Jeep Cherokee collapsed in the rollover wreck about 5 p.m. Monday on State Road 30 near Beaver Dam in Box Elder County, UHP spokesman Joe Dougherty said.

The others, including a 7-year-old girl, were hospitalized with less serious injuries, he said.

The Standard-Examiner of Ogden identified the driver as 34-year-old Benjamin Austin, of Fielding. Grace was living with family in Fielding, the paper reported. His relationship to the family was not available.

Dougherty told the Salt Lake Tribune there was a strong crosswind at the time of the crash. Investigators found equipment problems on the trailer, and that it may not have been properly loaded, he said.
