Gas Leak Prompts Evacuation in Downtown Bozeman

By Beacon Staff

BOZEMAN – Authorities say a gas leak forced them to evacuate a block in downtown Bozeman and close a handful of streets.

Claudia Rapkoch, a spokeswoman for NorthWestern Energy, says construction crews were working on a sewer line Monday afternoon when they hit a service line that connects with the 4-inch main gas line. The leak cut gas service to 14 customers.

The block between Babcock and Olive streets and Eighth and Seventh avenues was evacuated and power turned off to about four surrounding blocks.

Fire and police crews responded to the scene, but the leak has since been sealed.
