Fly Fishing Event With Competitions, Clinics and Presentations

By Beacon Staff

In preparation for fly fishing season, the Glacier Outdoor Center on June 11 is hosting a “Cast-Off” event with the tagline, “Learn. Celebrate. Fish.” It runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The event, sponsored by Glacier Anglers and Great Northern Brewing Company, will feature fly fishing-oriented presentations, casting clinics, product demos and more. There is also a casting competition with prizes.

The three morning speaking presentations will be “Beyond Bugs,” emphasizing entomology and ecology; “Trout Hunting,” focused on reading water and proper fly placement; and “From Nets to Knots,” a discussion on choosing the right equipment and tying it all together.

Jerry Smalley, a certified casting instructor, and others will be on-site giving advice, casting instruction, information and general tips on fly fishing. Food vendors will be available.

Proceeds from the event, which is free, will benefit the Flathead Chapter of Trout Unlimited. For more information, go to www.glacierraftco.com.
