Flathead Valley golfers fared well at the Montana State Junior Championships on June 20-21, with two taking home top honors and several more placing high.

Kalispell’s Teigan Avery won the girls 13-and-under age division with a two-day total of 157, with scores of 78 and 79. She beat Helena’s Coral Schulz by six strokes. Avery has been winning statewide tournaments, often by large margins, for the past couple of years.

The valley’s other winner was Arthur Doorn of Whitefish who won the boys 14-15 division with a score of 149. He shot 73 the first day and 76 the second day to beat Missoula’s Patrick Colberg by one stroke. Kalispell’s Cody Sherill was third.

Whitefish’s Reed Platke and Kalispell’s Ryan Porch finished third and fourth, respectively, in the boys 16-17 division, while Kalispell’s Logan Iverson came in eighth. Brandon McIver won with 132 – 67 on the first day and 65 on the second. McIver has now won at the junior championships three straight years.

In the boys 13-and-under division, Bigfork’s Ryan Keenan narrowly missed out on the title, finishing one stroke off the lead at 151 after shooting 74 and 77. Libby’s Ryggs Johnson was right behind Keenan in third with 152, while Kalispell’s Tom Mann fifth at 153.
