PLACES: Woodland Park

By Beacon Staff

Woodland is Kalispell’s premier public park for fun and recreation. Encompassing nearly 40 acres, the park features playgrounds, picnic and pavilion areas, a lagoon inhabited with wild ducks and geese and an abundance of gardens with open grassy areas. It’s a great place to bring the family for a picnic and is a prime location for jogging or kicking around a soccer ball.

Woodland also includes a water park and skate park. The pool and waterslide areas are open from June 10 through Aug. 21 from noon until 4 p.m. and feature a “lazy river” float. The skate park is open year round and features a quarter pipe, rails and a mini half pipe.

Woodland has several gardens and pavilions that make a great meeting place for groups of all sizes. Depending on your needs, the garden and pavilions can hold between 15 and 150 people with some sites providing electricity.

In the winter the lagoon transforms into an ice skating rink with an old-fashioned warming hut nearby.

There are several special events at the park. Every Wednesday is family night at the water park. On June 20, July 11 and Aug. 8 there are Family Pizza Nights.

How to get there: If you’re on Main Street in Kalispell, head east on Second Street. Go for about a half a mile and you’ll hit a stop sign at the intersection of Second Street and Woodland Avenue. Continue straight through the intersection for about 200 yards and you’ll arrive at the entrance to Woodland Park.
